  • Does Carl's have a physical location I can visit ?

    Absolutely. Carl's is centrally and conveniently located at 1579 Route 9 in Toms River, New Jersey. There you'll find our office and indoor/outdoor showroom, as well as a friendly and knowledgeable staff ready to assist you. While our regular office staff really knows their stuff, Project Consultants are always on hand as well to walk you around, show samples, explain displays, and answer questions. Should you choose to call us, that same staff will be the ones who personally answer your call. When you call Carl's (during regular business hours, of course), you'll always get someone live to help you.

    And that's not all - our property houses a seven-acre home improvement complex to serve our customers, complete with fabrication facilities, work shops, warehouse space, and mechanic shops to keep our fleet on the road.

    Beware of contractors working from their basements and garages, or operating out of a strip mall space, as they can disappear overnight. The bottom line is, Carl's is easy to find and we're not going anywhere.

  • Is Carl's licensed and insured ? Why is that important ?

    Carl's is fully licensed to perform construction work in both New Jersey & New York. We carry both liability and workman's comp insurance to ensure our customers are completely protected.

    Hiring and unlicensed or uninsured contractor can be the starting point of many issues. If a contractor is working without insurance, and someone gets hurt on the job, the burden of that injury can easily fall on the shoulders of you - the customer. Unlicensed contractors may be under-qualified or perform substandard work. Also, the contractor must have a valid license to secure any necessary permits for the project.

  • But do I HAVE to have a permit ? Can't I save that cost and have Carl's perform the work without one ? Who gets it ?

    When performing work that requires a permit, one should always be in place. Permits trigger important inspections, often throughout the project. When building a new deck, for example, having a building inspector 'Pass' the footings for that deck is an extra level of protection and responsibility for the customer. Also, all that wonderful insurance Carl's carries (above) will be moot if there is no permit. When an accident occurs on a project that should have a valid permit in place, but none was secured, the insurance company will not cover the accident in most cases. Bottom line: Permits are necessary, important, and in place to protect you.

    For fencing projects, we put the obligation of securing the permit on our customers, as a fencing permit is a simple process. For all other construction projects, Carl's will complete all necessary paperwork and work with the municipality directly on your behalf to secure all permits.

  • Carl's offers a pretty wide scope of specialized services. Do the same guys do everything ? When the job begins, who's in charge ?

    If you're thinking that a "Jack of all trades is a master of none", at Carl's WE AGREE. That's why all we employ crews who are experts in their given field: our Fencing Crews do nothing but install fencing, everyday, 52 weeks per year. Our Roofing crews only install roofing, etc. All our crews are specialists in their trade, and we are certified by the major manufacturers we represent to install their products properly, and to their specifications. Every job in the field is supervised by a Crew Chief, an Outside Construction Manager, or both.

    Operating in this manner allows us install with the highest degree of craftsmanship over a wide array of disciplines. For our customers, this means great work, beautiful jobs, and the ability to deal with ONE COMPANY for all your needs so your process is hassle-free.

  • What if the job takes several days ? Will there be long gaps in between work days ?

    No. Once Carl's begins a project, our crews are strategically scheduled to complete your project efficiently. While there may sometimes be a day's break between phases (roof may complete on a Tuesday, siding may begin on that Thursday, for example), we will be at your home working every single day until the project is complete. Carl's never juggles crews, meaning one crew will not begin your project, and then leave it to begin another, and another, and another. We have the proper labor force in place to get all projects done, and we will never leave you hanging.

  • Great. Speaking of time frames, how long does the average project take ?

    That depends on the job. Most fencing and roofing installs are done in one day! Siding, windows, decking... they can be anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on the size of the project and the scope of work. Remember, all the projects we install are custom jobs (because no two houses are identical). Whole house renovations and storm remediation, for example, can go on for months, but most basic projects are complete within a couple weeks. Your Project Consultant will be able to advise you of an expected time frame based on your unique scope of work.

    Once the project is complete, what if I have a question or concern ? Will Carl's stand behind the work ?

    YES. We're very proud of the work we perform, and stand behind all our projects in writing. With certain exceptions, Carl's will guarantee our projects will be free of defects due to workmanship for a period of Ten Years on exterior construction projects, and Two Years on fencing.     OK, this sounds great. What is the process to get a project started with Carl's?

    The first step is to contact us to set an appointment for one of our Project Consultants to meet with you, review the project, and take measurements. Once a proposal is developed and agreed upon...

    WAIT A MINUTE, WAIT A MINUTE... My friend had an estimate done a few years ago for some home improvements from another company, and the guy that came to his house was there for four hours! He wouldn't leave until my buddy signed his contract or threw him out!

    We know... and that's despicable. At Carl's, we respect your time. Our Project Consultants are real experts at planning and design, as well as technically proficient. They will only spend as much time as they need in order to measure properly, explain what you need and why you need it, go over options if necessary, and answer your questions. There are NEVER high-pressure sales techniques employed during a meeting with a Carl's Project Consultant, but we do believe our stellar customer service track record, rave reviews, and lack of customer complaints can be traced directly to the top-notch job our consultants do up front with you. We think it's very important that you understand everything we're proposing and you're buying. The devil is in the details.

    Whew... That's a relief. OK, once we sign up, what happens?

    The process can differ slightly based on the type of project, but once we receive a contract, rest assured we are working hard behind the scenes to make sure your project goes off without a hitch, and you get exactly what you're expecting. Logistical planning, fence fabrication, material ordering and delivery coordination, pre-construction meetings, permit application completion, and debris management preparations are just a few of the activities that often take place prior to your project beginning. In many cases, you don't have to do anything but wait for us to provide you with a Start-Date.
